What is the difference between 301 and 302?
301 and 308 are permanent and pass the page's value to the new address; 302 and 307 are temporary.
Why are redirect chains bad?
Every hop adds delay and some crawlers stop after a few hops.
How many hops are followed?
Up to ten. More than that is reported as a loop or a chain that is too long.
Does http to https count?
Yes, it is the most common first hop. Link straight to the https address.
