FAQ
Questions about the robots.txt tester.
Which rule wins when two rules match?
The longest matching rule wins; when an Allow and a Disallow are the same length, Allow wins.
Does Disallow remove a page from Google?
No. It stops crawling, not indexing. Use a noindex tag on a crawlable page to remove it.
Can I block AI crawlers?
Yes, GPTBot, ClaudeBot and others follow their own user-agent groups in robots.txt.
What if there is no robots.txt?
Then everything may be crawled. That is fine for most sites.
